Does This Iron Test Give a Value in ppb or Just Presence/Absence?

By | February 6, 2018

We received an email from ''Weindell' who asked, "I'm looking at your watersafe well test kit and want to know if the included iron test will measure levels of iron in ppm or simply tell me presence/absence?"

The WaterSafe Well Water Test Kit measures the following parameters: E. Coli Bacteria, Iron, Copper, Lead, Pesticides, Nitrates, Nitrites, Chlorine, Hardness and pH.

The iron test measures water's Fe+2 concentration and the color chart provided with the kit makes it possible to see what concentration range a water sample's Fe+2 iron concentration falls into.  The color chart has color blocks marked as 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 1.0 and 5.0 ppm.

Please note that the test gives results in ppm (parts per million), not ppb (parts per billion).

What about total iron?

We mentioned that the test in the WaterSafe Well Water Test Kit detects the Fe+2 form of iron, but what about the Fe+3 form of iron?  This test does not detect the Fe+3 form of iron.

If you wish to test for total iron, (Fe+2 and Fe+3), please consider the WaterWorks Total Iron Visual Test.
